Winter storms can affect the Sarasota and Charlotte County area in unexpected ways – and lead to serious damage to your home. Paul Davis of Sarasota and Charlotte County has some tips for you to help protect your property from storm damage – we want you to be safe and sound this winter!
- Check outside your home for loose shingles, siding, and fence boards and repair all issues as soon as possible. These items can easily blow off during storms.
- Remove weak or damaged parts of trees in your yard, especially those near the roof. To make sure large limbs and branches are handled safely, use a tree care professional.
- Clear debris from gutters and downspouts so the drainage system can do its job. Downspouts should send water at least 5’ away from your foundation. Adding a downspout extension is a simple fix for an area. Water draining under your home can lead to mold, flooding, and can attract termites!
- Keep flashlights, camping lanterns, and/or headlamps in an easily accessible area if a power outage occurs. That means fresh batteries for everything, too.
- Have an emergency supply of food and water. This will help sustain your family in the middle of a major storm.
All of us at Paul Davis of Sarasota and Charlotte County encourage you, your family, and your home to be storm-ready at all times. Follow these steps to protect your home and sleep easier this winter.
